KINSHIP
Kinship proceedings are formal hearings to establish blood relations to a decedent in order to determine whether the alleged distributee is rightfully an heir to the estate.
Kinship proceedings are also sought to resolve issues of unknown heirs, and quite often involve genealogists, the Public Administrator and guardians ad litem. The evidence presented at kinship proceedings can be in the form of expert testimony, witness testimony, DNA evidence and document presentations. See SCPA 2225
