ADMINISTRATOR
A person appointed by a court to administer the estate of a person who died without a Will. The duties of an administrator often include searching through the decedent's papers and personal effects to:
(1) determine the assets and other property of the estate,
(2) determine creditors and any debts that need to be paid, and
(3) determine potential heirs of the estate.
The administrator is also responsible for collecting and managing the assets of the estate, paying the debts and taxes, and then distributing the remaining assets to the rightful heirs.
