EXECUTOR
A person designated in a Will to administer the estate of a person who has died.
In addition to probating the Will (the process of having the Will admitted into the records of the court), the duties of an executor often include searching through the decedent's papers and personal effects to:
(1) determine the assets and other property of the estate
(2) determine creditors and any debts that need to be paid, and
(3) establish contact with the named heirs of the estate.
The executor is also responsible for collecting and managing the assets of the estate, paying the debts and taxes, and then distributing the remaining assets to the rightful heirs.
